Carlos Montero is undoubtedly one of the most prolific creators that Netflix Spain has signed. […] Now, the streaming giant has just announced a new series signed by Montero, Respira, with some of the most well-known faces of the small and big Spanish screen.

The fiction, which has started its pre-production today, will be set in the day-to-day life of a hospital located in Valencia and will star Najwa Nimri, Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Blanca Suárez and Manu Ríos, who has already worked with Montero in Élite. Likewise, Nimri and Suárez repeat with Netflix: the first has participated in La Casa de Papel and Sagrada Familia, while Blanca has been seen in Las Chicas del Cable or Jaguar.

As Netflix has announced, Respira follows Biel, a resident who has been working his ass off for months in a public hospital with the aim of becoming the best doctor. However, everything falls apart when a total strike breaks out without minimum services in the hospital.

The health workers are supporting the strike to raise awareness among the population about their essential work and to protest against the cuts that public health is suffering, but Biel and the other residents do not know whether to follow their example, causing fatal consequences for the patients.

“With Respira we want to recover the great hospital dramas, but with a furiously contemporary look that we will take to the limit”, Montero said in a statement released by Netflix: “It is the perfect time to defend the almost heroic work of our health workers, to tell of their dedication, their frustrations, their joys and to know that despite everything they continue to watch over us”.

The protagonists will be accompanied by Borja Luna, Ana Rayo, Alfonso Bassave, Macarena de Rueda, Blanca Martínez, Abril Zamora, Xoán Fórneas, Marwa Bakhat and Víctor Sáinz.
